Campbell 'released on bail'

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has reportedly been released on police bail after being arrested over an alleged assault.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard confirmed that a woman had attended a London police station yesterday and alleged that she had been subject to an assault on her at an address in Westminster.

The supposed victim of the attack is thought to be Campbell's counsellor, according to reports.

In a statement, police said: "Officers attended the address and a woman aged 36 years was arrested at approximately 13:20 BST.

"She was taken to a central London police station. Last night she was bailed and will attend a station on a date in October."

Responding to reports of the model's arrest, Campbell's spokesman told the Sun newspaper that he thought there had been a "misunderstanding".

"Once police have investigated we are sure this will be resolved satisfactorily," he added.

Streatham-born Campbell rose to fame after being discovered in London's Covent Garden at the age of 15.

She became the first black model to appear on both the French and British editions of Vogue magazine and has enjoyed a successful career which has also featured appearances in several films and the launching of her own cosmetics range.
